A day before the Fourth of July the City High offense provided its own fireworks in a doubleheader sweep of Waterloo East.
Class 5A fourth-ranked City High had four home runs from three different players while scoring 19 runs in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division sweep of the Trojans in Iowa City.
City High won the opener 13-1 and took the nightcap 6-0 to stretch its winning streak to nine and improve to 14-2 on the season and 8-0 in Mississippi Division play.
The Little Hawks haven’t lost since a 2-1 loss to 5A third-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy on June 24 and have outscored opponents 100-14 during their current winning streak.
Ayana Lindsey, Brooke Bormann and Elyse Rios all homered for City High in the 13-1 win in the opener.
The homer for Lindsey was her ninth of the season and ties the junior for the state lead.
After hitting her first home run on the season in game one Rios homered again in the nightcap helping City High complete the sweep with a 6-0 win.
Rios became the eighth City High player to hit a home run as the Little Hawks have 34 homers in 16 games this season.
