Kara Maiers was down right unhittable on Wednesday evening against Linn-Mar.

The Liberty High junior spun a gem in the opener of a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division doubleheader on Wednesday on a rainy evening at Oak Ridge Middle School in Marion.

Maiers fanned 13 in a no-hitter helping Liberty High to a 6-0 win in the opener before Linn-Mar salvaged a split with a 9-4 win in the nightcap.

Liberty High moved to 9-7 on the season and 6-6 in MVC play and had a five-game winning streak snapped with the game-two loss.

Linn-Mar moved to 7-5 on the year and 3-5 in MVC play while ending a three-game losing skid with the win in the nightcap.

Maiers was dominant in the opener, allowing just four hits and needing 99 pitches to complete the no-hitter.

The junior right-hander struck out the first seven batters she faced on Wednesday and had two or more strikeouts in five of seven innings.

Maiers got all the offensive production she would need before she ever walked into the circle when Brylee Klosterman led off the game with a single and later scored on a passed ball.

Klosterman tacked on to the lead with a solo home run to lead off the fifth and the senior centerfield single and scored in a four-run Liberty High seventh that broke the game open.

Miranda Jones and Mischa Reiners each went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Klosterman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI in the opener.

Ashlyn Geasland and Raquel Trolliet each had hits and drove in runs for Liberty High.

Linn-Mar broke open a 2-2 tie with seven second-inning runs on its way to a 9-4 win in the nightcap.

Jones and Reiners each went 3-for-4 to pace Liberty High in game two. Reiners drove in two runs while Jones doubled and scored a run.

Geasland had two hits and drove in a run while Kennedy Daugherty had a hit and drove in a run.
