Softball Roundup: Solon Gets Two Wins at Home Triangular

Solon stretched its winning streak to six with a pair of wins on Saturday at its own triangular.
The Spartans defeated Union 12-2 in its opener Saturday and capped the day with a 12-0 win over Class 2A No. 15 Durant in four innings.
Solon improved to 6-2 with the two wins while Union and Durant each dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Carly Ellison earned the win against Union allowing one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three and walking one.
Sarah Heick led the Solon offensive attack going 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while Ava Stebral went 2-for-3 with a double and Hilary Wilson was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Jada Buffington had two hits including a double, scored three runs and drove in a run.
Kayla West worked three shutout innings to earn the win against Durant, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
West also went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI as Solon hammered 12 hits in the win over the Wildcats.
Wilson went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Monet Barnhouse double twice and drove in two runs and Heick doubled and drove in three runs.
Ellison also had a double and two RBI while Jadyn Jeter had a double and scored two runs.

Regina Drops Two in Doubleheader With Cedar Rapids Xavier
Cedar Rapids Xavier edged Regina twice in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday in Iowa City winning the opener 6-4 and taking the nightcap 4-1.
Regina had a two-game winning streak snapped with the loss and dropped to 2-3 on the season while Cedar Rapids Xavier improved to 3-3.
Annie and Elly Gahan each homered to lead the Regals in the opener.
Annie Gahan went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and Elly Gahan was 1-for-3 with a home run.
Emma Sueppel, Alli Clark and Baylee O’Connor each added hits for the Regals while Clark and Sueppel each scored runs.
Emma Nibaur took the loss in the circle allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hit while striking out two.
Annie Gahan, Sueppel, Nibaur and Clark all had hits in the second game.
Gahan doubled and scored and Nibaur had an RBI for the Regals in the game two loss.
Jaelynn Ernst took the loss allowing four runs on three hits while striking out two in five innings.

Liberty High Splits With Ranked Teams at Wildcat Tournament
Liberty High split a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Wildcat Tournament in Carlisle on Saturday falling to Class 4A top-ranked Carlisle and defeating 3A No. 12 Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Lightning moved to 2-4 on the season with the 1-1 performance on Saturday.
Liberty High defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (2-4) 6-2 in its opener on Saturday.
Kinsley Robertson earned the win in the circle allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four in six innings.
Brylee Klosterman went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored while Tiffany Jones had a hit and drove in two runs and Miranda Jones drove in a run.
Ashlyn Geasland had a hit and scored a run for the Lightning.
Carlisle (5-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Liberty High in its second game on Saturday.
Freshman Kennedy Daugherty tossed six strong innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out three.
Miranda Jones went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple and scored a run while Klosterman had a double and drove in a run.
Robertson went 2-for-3 for Liberty High.
