Softball Roundup: Liberty High Splits With Second-ranked City High in Home Opener

In its third year of varsity softball Liberty High made history on Thursday with its first ever home game.
Liberty High made sure it was a game to remember.
Raquel Trolliet had a walk-off single to cap a two-run 10th inning rally that led Liberty High to an 8-7 win over Class 5A second-ranked City High in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader in North Liberty.
City High responded with a 17-1 three-inning win in the nightcap to salvage a split and improve to 3-1 on the season. Liberty high dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
Kara Maiers earned the win in the circle in game one allowing seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits while striking out 13 in 10 innings.
Brylee Klosterman and Miranda Jones each had two hits and drove in a run for Liberty High in the opener while Tiffany Jones and Trolliet each had a hit and two RBI.
Ella Cook and Ayana Lindsey each homered for City High in the opener while Carey Koenig went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Keli Potter had a double and drove in two runs in game one.
City High broke open game two with five runs in the second inning and put the game away with 12 runs in the third.
Lindsey, Potter and Makayla Ribble all homered for City High in the nightcap as the Little Hawks pounded 11 hits.
Potter drove in three runs while Ribble was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Lindsey was 2-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored.

Clear Creek Amana Stays Hot With Sweep of South Tama
Clear Creek Amana continued its hot start to the season with a doubleheader sweep of South Tama on Thursday in Tama.
Class 4A No. 14 Clear Creek Amana won the opener 8-1 and took the nightcap 13-1 to improve to 5-1 on the season while South Tama dropped to 1-6.
Raina Henze earned the win in the circle in game one allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out six.
Ainsley Schrock went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead Clear Creek Amana while Gabrielle Bedford had a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
Eight different Clippers had a hit in the nightcap as Clear Creek Amana had 11 hits in the four-inning win.
Bailey Olerich, Katelyn LeFleur and Allie Rummelhart all had two hits for the Clippers while Olivia Miller homered and drove in two runs.
Reese Stockman and Peyton Graft each had a hit and drove in two runs for the Clippers.
Graft earned the win in the circle allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out three in four innings.
