Senior Spotlight: Solon’s Riley Olsen
Senior Spotlight
Riley Olsen, Solon
Parents: Ryan and Tina Olsen
Siblings: Wyatt and Wesley Olsen
Sports/Activities: I’ve been involved in dance, band, rock climbing and soccer this year.
How did you get involved in sports?: I've been involved with sports all of my life starting out with t-ball and soccer for a few years when I was younger. My actual sports career picked up in middle school when I joined volleyball.
Favorite moment from athletics: My favorite moment from my athletic career have probably been the bus rides. There's plenty of great athletic moments out on the field but feeling connected and just talking with friends on the way to a game or competition is unbeatable. The only thing I could truly consider as a favorite ‘athletic’ moment was when I scored my first goal and when I competed with a dance solo for the first time.
A person that has influenced you: I think the person that has had the greatest influence on me is probably my old dance coach Marjorie Lane, I truly was able to follow my passions and was inspired to try harder. I've loved all my coaches but I really grew as a person and would've never come out of my shell if I hadn't danced on her team.
Hobbies: My hobbies are reading, spending time with friends and my boyfriend, watching plenty of youtube, and games with my family.
Favorite class: My favorite class is probably Chemistry or either of my Psychology classes.
Favorite food: My favorite food is probably a burger, it's basic but it's perfect for a picky eater, like myself.
Favorite book: It’s pretty hard to pick a favorite book I have read so many. Although one of my many favorites is The Cellar by Natasha Preston.
Favorite movie: My favorite movie would probably have to be Journey to the Center of the Earth or Jumanji.
How are you spending time with school closed?: Since school has been closed I've been doing a lot of cooking and trying to make new things, lots of reading especially outside, working out, and spending time with my family.
Future plans: My plans after graduation are to go to the University of Iowa pursuing a degree in a public health interest with a second major in Chemistry or microbiology. Then I will continue on to get my doctorate and hopefully focus on infectious disease.
