Over the past two season Kara Maiers has helped Liberty High quickly turn into a softball contender.
On Monday the junior pitcher made a decision on her future.
Maiers announced her commitment to Kirkwood Community College Monday with a post on social media.
“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my softball career at Kirkwood,” Maiers wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to all my coaches who helped me get here.”
Maiers has played a key role in what has been a strong start for the Liberty High program in its first two seasons of varsity action.
The right-hander posted a 14-6 record and 2.08 ERA with 152 strikeouts in 118 innings two seasons ago as Liberty High won 18 games.
Maiers led Liberty High to a breakthrough season last summer helping the Lightning to a 21-22 record and its first regional final appearance.
In three postseason games last season Maiers allowed just one earned run and struck out 16 in 18 innings.
She finished her sophomore season with a 13-7 record and 2.31 ERA while striking out 142 in a career-high 121 innings or work.
