Kaiya Luneckas is a four-sport standout with an older sister that was an all-American collegiate volleyball player and a father that helps coach her high school basketball team.
The future for the multi-talented Luneckas, however, is on the softball diamond.
Luneckas announced her commitment to join the softball program at Saint Louis University with a post on social media on Friday after previously planning to play collegiate softball at Iowa.
“After much deliberation and prayer I have decided to play softball at Saint Louis University instead of with the Hawkeyes,” Luneckas wrote on Twitter. “It was a difficult decision but I feel that this is where God’s plan is taking me. I’m extremely excited to be joining the Billiken family.”
The 6-foot-1 Luneckas was a multi-year varsity starter in basketball, an all-conference performer in volleyball and a state medalist in track and field but her best work came on the softball diamond.
Luneckas is a four-year varsity starter and has led the Bears in innings pitched each of the past three seasons while posting a 4.39 career ERA.
Opponents have hit under .193 each of the past three seasons against the right-handed throwing Luneckas who has more than 500 career strikeouts while fanning 1.3 batters an inning over her career.
Luneckas had the best season of her career as a junior posting a 12-12 record and a career-best 3.41 ERA in a career-high 149 2/3 innings.
She struck out 211 while holding opponents to a .193 batting average.
Luneckas is also a career .311 with 31 extra-base hits including six home runs to her credit.
The ranked second on the team with 26 RBI a year ago and has driven in 53 runs and belted 29 extra-base hits in the past two seasons.
A member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, Saint Louis University was 19-33 in 2019 and was off to a 8-13 start this spring before the remained of the season was cancelled.
