West High Graduate Sims Commits to North Dakota

A former West High standout has settled on his future home.
West High graduate Seybian Sims announce his verbal commitment to North Dakota via social media on Tuesday after spending the past two seasons at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
“Thank you to all of the schools and coaching staffs who reached out and took the time to recruit me throughout this process,” Sims wrote on Twitter. “In saying that, I am excited to announce that I am committing to the University of North Dakota.”
Sims was a second-team all-region selection as a sophomore at Kirkwood after averaging 7.9 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the field.
A two-year starter for the Eagles, Sims helped Kirkwood to a 31-4 record NJCAA Division II national title as a freshman in 2019 and a 24-6 record this season.
The 6-foot-7 Sims was a third-team Class 4A all-state pick after helping West High to a state-runner-up finish in 2018.
Sims averaged 14.2 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game as a senior at West High while shooting 76 percent from the field.
During his two seasons of varsity action at West High the Trojans were 44-8 and reached the 4A title game back-to-back seasons winning a state title in 2017.
Over the past four seasons Sims has helped Kirkwood and West High post a combined record of 99-18.
North Dakota is coming off a 15-18 season under first-year head coach Paul Sather that included a 7-9 mark in the Summit League.
