City High Senior Joens Headlines Area IPSWA All-State Selections

Aubrey Joens became a 1,500-point scorer last month and a four-time state qualifier last week.
On Tuesday the City High senior became a two-time first-team all-stater.
Joens was named to the Class 5A all-state first team selected by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association for the second consecutive season on Tuesday the organization released its postseason honors.
A three-time all-state selection by the IPSWA, Joens earned first-team honors for the second straight season after ranking fourth in Class 5A with 20.2 points per game and helping City High qualify for the state tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
Joens was one of six area players to be honored by the IPSWA on Tuesday joining teammate Rose Nkumu and West High junior Audrey Koch who were both named to the Class 5A second team.
Clear Creek Amana senior Karsyn Stratton was a first-team pick in Class 4A while West Branch junior guard Sasha Koenig was a first team selection in Class 2A.
Solon sophomore Kaia Holtkamp was named to the Class 3A third-team.
Joens is the lone two-time first teamer among the area picks, landing a spot on the eight-member 5A first team.
An Iowa State recruit, Joens averaged 5.4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2.1 assists per game while helping City High to a 23-2 record and a spot in the 5A semifinals.
Joens averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds in a pair of state tournament games.
Nkumu was a second-team selection in Class 5A after leading 5A with 5.6 assists per game and ranking second in 5A with 4 steals per game.
The Marquette recruit averaged 14.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Little Hawks.
Koch was a second-team selection after leading West High with 18.5 points per game as a junior.
Koch shot 50 percent from the field and 81 percent from the foul line this season and averaged 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while helping West High to a 14-10 record and a spot in the reginal final.
Stratton was a first-team selection for the first time after the best season of her career as a senior.
The 5-foot-9 guard ranked fourth in 4A in scoring at 21.2 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field to help Clear Creek Amana to a 19-5 record and its first ever state tournament appearance.
Stratton led the Clippers in assists (2.3) and steals (2.3) and ranked second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
Koenig was also a first-time first-team pick after directing West Branch to a 21-4 record and a Class 2A state tournament berth.
The junior point guard averaged a team-best 15.7 points per game and led Class 2A with 5.5 assists per game.
Koenig add 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game.
Holtkamp earned all-state honors for the first time when she was selected to the Class 3A third team.
The 5-foot-8 sophomore led Solon with 11.2 points per game and averaged 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
