Led by Karsyn Stratton the Clear Creek Amana girls basketball program enjoyed a steady ascent the past four seasons punctuated by the first state tournament appearance in program history last week.
Stratton had her own individual career climb capped on Monday when she earned first-team all-state honors for the first time from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
A four-time all-state pick by the IGCA, Stratton was a third-team selection as a freshman before earning second-team honors each of the past two years.
Stratton was named to the Class 4A eight-member first team for the first time on Monday following a stellar senior season in which she ranked fourth in 4A in scoring while leading Clear Creek Amana to a school-record 19 wins and its first state tournament berth.
The 5-foot-8 Stratton averaged 21.2 points per game on 55 percent shooting this season, led the Clippers in assists (2.3) and steals (2.3) and ranked second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
Stratton was one of three Your Prep Sports area athletes to earn first-team all-state honors joining City High senior Aubrey Joens and West Branch junior Sasha Koenig.
Joens earned all-state honors for the third consecutive season after being selected to the 5A first team for the second year in a row.
An Iowa State recruit, Joens ranked fourth in 5A in scoring at 20.2 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free throw line.
Joens averaged 5.4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2.1 assists per game while helping City High to a 23-2 record and spot in the Class 5A state semifinals.
City High senior Rose Nkumu joined Joens in earning all-state honors for the third consecutive season.
A Class 5A second-team pick each of the past two years, Nkumu was a third-team selection this season after averaging 14.3 points per game on 54 percent shooting.
Nkumu led 5A with 5.6 assists per game and ranked second in 5A with 4 steals per contest.
West High junior Audrey Koch was named to the 5A second team to earn all-state honors for the second year in a row.
The 5-foot-10 Koch averaged 18.5 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line to help West High reach the regional finals.
Koch averaged 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Koenig earned all-state honors for the IGCA for the first time after directing West Branch to a 21-4 record and a Class 2A state tournament berth.
The junior point guard led West Branch in scoring with 15.7 points per game and led all of Class 2A with 5.5 assists per game.
Koenig also averaged 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game on her way to first-team all-state honors.
