Boys Basketball Roundup: Liberty High Rally Comes Up Short at Dubuque Hempstead

Liberty High battled back from a 12-point halftime deficit but couldn’t complete the comeback falling to Dubuque Hempstead 52-49 in a Class 4A, substate semifinal on Friday in Dubuque.
Dubuque Hempstead improved to 15-7 with the win and advanced to the Substate 4 title game where it will face fourth-ranked Cedar Falls on Tuesday at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids at 8 p.m.
Liberty High closed the season 10-13.
Michael Duax had a game-high 21 points to lead the Mustangs while Nicholas Kaesbauer added 10 points and Jamari Smith had eight.
Andre Brandon led Liberty High with 14 points to pace three players in double figures while Kelby Telander had 13 points and Basil Aldoss added 11.
Ethan O’Donnell chipped in with seven points.

City High fell to seventh-ranked Dubuque Senior 80-57 in a Class 4A, substate semifinal on Friday in Dubuque.
Dubuque Senior improved to 19-3 with the win and advanced to the Substate 2 title game where it will face Davenport North on Tuesday in Clinton.
City High closed the season 9-13.
