Boys Basketball Roundup: Liberty High Rolls Past Clinton in Substate Opener

After losing four straight games to end the regular season Liberty High wasted no time getting back on track in its postseason opener.
The Lightning raced to an 84-31 win over Clinton on Monday in a Class 4A, Substate 4 quarterfinal in North Liberty.
Liberty High improved to 10-12 on the season with the win and will travel to Dubuque Hempstead (14-7) for a substate semifinal on Friday at 7 p.m.
Clinton closed the season 3-19.
Savion Taylor had a game-high 17 points to lead three Liberty High players in double figures.
Kelby Telander had 15 points, Basil Aldoss had 10 and Ira Hazeltine added nine for the Lightning.
Cody Schroeder and Andre Brandon each had eight for Liberty High.
Taylon Hayes led Clinton with eight points and Max Holy had seven for the River Kings.

Solon Falls to Keokuk in Substate Quarterfinal
Solon fell into an early deficit in its postseason opener and couldn’t dig itself out falling to Keokuk 59-47 in a Class 3A, Substate 5 quarterfinal on Monday in Tiffin.
The Spartans trailed 29-16 at the half and couldn’t recover finishing the season 7-15 while Keokuk (16-7) advance to the Substate 5 semifinal where it will face Clear Creek Amana (17-5) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Brady Jeworrek hit a pair of 3-pointers and had a team-high 11 points to lead Solon while Ben Cusick added eight points and David Bluder had seven.
Isaiah Seay had a game-high 24 points for Keokuk while Anthony Potratz had 20 points.
