Girls Basketball Roundup: West High Upsets No. 10 West Des Moines Valley in Overtime

West High builds momentum with a strong end to the regular season, enters the regional tournament playing its best basketball of the season and proceeds to make a deep run in the postseason.
If it sounds familiar it should and BJ Mayer has the Women of Troy doing the same thing again.
Class 5A No. 14 West High (14-9) pushed its win streak to four on Saturday with a 56-54 overtime upset of No. 10 West Des Moines Valley (14-8) in at Class 5A, Region 5 semifinal in West Des Moines.
Matayia Tellis scored a driving layup as time expired to force overtime and Cora Saunders scored the go-ahead basket with a driving layup with 24.5 left as West High advanced to the Region 5 title game.
West High will travel to No. 7 Southeast Polk (18-4) on Tuesday for the 7 p.m. regional final.
The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for West Des Moines Valley and avenged a 33-point loss to the Tigers back on January 25.
Audrey Koch scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Tellis had eight points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals with just two turnovers in the win.
Freshman Meena Tate had 13 points and three steals and Cora Saunders had 10 points for the Women of Troy.
Alex Honnold had a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds to pace West Des Valley.
