West Branch hasn’t locked up the River Valley Conference South Division title yet but the Bears took a big step in that direction on Tuesday.
Class 2A ninth-ranked West Branch snapped a seven-game winning streak for 3A No. 11 West Liberty with a 58-41 win over the Comets in a battle of RVC South Division leaders in West Liberty.
West Branch improved to 16-3 on the season and 15-2 in RVC play while West Liberty dropped to 16-3 and 14-3 in
Sasha Koenig poured in a game-high 23 points and dished out five assists as West Branch won its third straight.
Taya Young had 11 points and three rebounds while Taylor Thein added seven points, three rebounds and three steals.

Solon Rolls Past South Tama on Senior Night
Solon stopped a four-game losing streak with a 71-26 win over South Tama on senior night in Solon on Tuesday.
The Spartans shot 51 percent from the field and had three players score in double figures while improving to 8-11 on the season and 8-9 in WAMAC play.
South Tama dropped to 0-19 with the loss.
Solon bolted to a 26-6 lead after the opening quarter and led 41-15 at the half.
Kaia Holtkamp and Makinley Levin each had 15 points to pace Solon while Jenna LaDage added 3 points for the Spartans.
Jada Buffington had eight points and Aira Foster added six.
Tylese Rosenberger led South Tama with 10 points.

West High Rebounds With Win Over Cedar Rapids Jefferson
West High bounced back from its loss to City High on Friday with a 61-32 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division tilt in Cedar Rapids.
West High improved to 9-7 with the win while Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 2-16 with its 13th consecutive loss.
Audrey Koch led West High with 16 points and five rebounds while Matayia Tellis had 13 points, five steals and four rebounds.
Anna Prouty had eight points and five rebounds and Jenna Saunders had seven points.

Nkumu Leads City High Past CR Washington
Rose Nkumu scored a game-high 26 points to lead Class 5A top-ranked City High to a 75-51 win over Cedar Rapids Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division matchup in Cedar Rapids.
City High improved to 16-0 on the season while Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 9-9.
Aubrey Joens added 22 points for City High.
