Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Tatum Koenig
West Branch graduate Tatum Koenig posted a pair of strong performances against teams from her home state last week helping Bradley to wins over Northern Iowa and Drake.
Koenig had seven points and five assists without a turnover in a 61-47 win over Northern Iowa on Friday and went 6-of-6 from the field while scoring 16 points and added for rebounds in a 77-76 win over Drake on Sunday.
A 5-foot-7 sophomore guard, Koenig is averaging 7.5 points, 3.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game for Bradley helping the Braves post a 16-2 record including 7-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Ashley Joens
Former City High standout Ashley Joens and current Iowa State sophomore guard earned Big 12 player of the week honors for the third time this season last Monday after averaging 24 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in two contests.
The 6-foot Joens leads the Cyclones with 22.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game and currently leads the Big 12 and ranks in the top 10 nationally in scoring.
Tia Saunders
West High graduate and current University of Iowa senior Tia Saunders had an impressive performance on Friday at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky.
Saunders won the 600 meters in a career-best time of 1:30.92, the sixth fastest time in Iowa program history.
The winning time for Saunders ranks second in the Big 10.
Chandler Haight
Former West High standout and current Drake sophomore Chandler Haight placed third in the shot put at the Cyclone Open on Saturday with a throw of 43-3 ¼.
