Wrestling Roundup: Solon, City High Each Crown Two Champs at J-Hawk Invitational

City High and Solon each crowned a pair of champions at the 16-team J-Hawk Invitational on Monday in Cedar Rapids.
Ben Kueter and Jason Lemus won individual titles to help City High to a fourth-place team finish while Hayden Taylor and Jax Flynn claimed championships for Solon which placed sixth with 141 points.
Pleasant Valley won the team title with 194.5 points while Dubuque Hempstead was second with 175 followed by Cedar Falls with 163.5.
City High got runner-up finishes from Ethan Wood-Finley and Garrett Bormann and placed fourth with 153.5 points.
Kueter led City High with a title at 160 pounds, earning a 15-4 major decision over Pleasant Valley’s Ryan Kammerer in the title match.
The freshman improved to 6-0 on the season with win in the title match, his first match of the season to go the distance.
Lemus won the 220-pound title with a first-period pin of Alex Hudson of Dubuque Hempstead in the title match.
The pin in the title match was the ninth straight win for Lemus which improved to 16-4 on the season.
Class 3A No. 6 Wood-Finley (18-2) fell to third-ranked Blaine Frazier of Burlington Notre Dame 7-2 in the 113-pound title match while Bormann (15-6) dropped a 6-2 decision to Adler Kramer of Dubuque Hempstead in the 120-pound championship.
Taylor remained unbeaten on the season with his title at 145 pounds improving to 32-0.
The Class 2A second-ranked sophomore earned a 17-2 tech fall over 1A No. 6 Brody Hawtrey of North Cedar in the championship match
Flynn (27-4) avenged a loss earlier this month with a 12-4 win over 3A eighth-ranked Tim Nimely of Muscatine in the 170-pound championship match.
Flynn pinned Nimely in the finals of the Fort Madison invite in December and Nimely returned the favor at the Solon Duals on January 4.
Fourth-ranked Flynn was dominant in a 12-4 in the rubber match on Monday.
Zeb Gnida fell to 3A top-ranked Eli Loyd of Pleasant Valley in the 152-pound title match.
Gnida led 4-3 in the final 30 seconds before Loyd got the pin in 5:53.
City High got a third-place finish from Gable Mitchell at 152 pounds while Gage Marty was third at 195 for Solon.
