Wrestling Roundup: West High’s Garvin Wins Title at Southeast Polk Red Owens Holiday Classic

Hunter Garvin won an individual title and Grant O’Dell and Graham Gambrall each added runner-up finishes as West High placed sixth at the Red Owens Holiday Classic on Saturday in Altoona.
Class 3A second-ranked Southeast Polk won the team title with 342.5 points followed by fourth-ranked Bettendorf with 231.5 points. West High was sixth with 107.5 points.
Top-ranked Garvin defeated No. 5 Joel Jesuroga of Southeast Polk 10-2 in the 132-pound title match.
Fourth-ranked O’Dell dropped a 7-2 decision to second-ranked Southeast Polk freshman Nathanael Jesuroga in the 106-pound championship.
Gambrall dropped a 9-3 decision to Camden Baarda in the 152-pound title match.
Brett Pelfrey added a third-place finish for West High at 220-pounds.

Solon Finishes Fifth at Fort Madison Invitational
Solon had three wrestlers win individual titles on its way to a fifth-place team finish at the 18-team, two-day Fort Madison Invitational that concluded on Saturday in Fort Madison.
Hayden Taylor, Zeb Gnida and Jax Flynn all won individual championships as Solon finished with 374 points.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy won the team title with 487 points followed by Dubuque Hempstead with 421.5 and Fort Madison with 421.
Clear Creek Amana placed 10th with 247 points and got runner-up finishes from Sam Stevens and Kael Scranton.
Taylor improved to 22-0 on his way to the 145-pound title, earning a 7-3 win over Dubuque Hempstead senior Ben Faber in the title match.
Gnida (21-3) won the 152-pound championship with a first-period pin of Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior Divion Ocheltree.
Flynn moved to 19-3 on the season with a second-period pin of Muscatine junior Time Nimley in the 170-pound championship match.
Stevens fell to Quinten Aney of Mediapolis 10-0 in the 126-pound title match and Scranton dropped an 8-2 decision to Duncan Delzell of Burlington in the 132-pound final.

Terwilleger Wins Title at Saber Invite
Sophomore Elijah Terwilleger won the 152-pound title to lead Liberty High at the Saber Invitational on Saturday in DeWitt.
Terwilleger pinned Midland junior Carson Hunter in 1:08 in the 152-pound title match to help Liberty High to an eighth-place team finish.
Camanche won the team title with 159 points, one more than host Central DeWitt while Maquoketa was third with 141.
Liberty High placed eighth with 47 points.

City High Competes at Battle of Waterloo
City High went 1-5 at the two-day Battle of Waterloo dual tournament on Friday and Saturday in Waterloo.
The Little Hawks fell to Waterloo Columbus, Clear Lake and Waterloo West in pool action and went 1-2 in the Cunningham-Sallis Bracket falling to Osage in the quarterfinals and Nashua-Plainfield before defeating Waterloo East.
Ethan Wood-Finley and Jason Lemus each went 6-0 on the weekend to pace City High.
