Wrestling Roundup: Solon Sophomore Taylor Wins Title at Independence Invite

West High placed eighth and Solon was ninth at the two-day, 33-team Cliff Keen Independence Invitational on Saturday in Independence.
Top-ranked Solon sophomore Hayden Taylor won the 145-pound title with a 7-2 decision over fourth-ranked Sam Kallem of Ankeny.
The title by Taylor headlined a list of four top-five finishes for Solon which finished with 210 points.
Senior Zeb Gnida was fourth at 152 pounds while senior Jax Flynn was fifth at 182 and junior Caleb Ebert was fifth at 160.
West High got runner-up finishes from sophomore Hunter Garvin and senior Will Hoeft and had four wrestlers place in the top five.
Class 3A top-ranked Garvin was runner-up at 132 pounds dropping an 11-8 decision to 1A top-ranked Robert Avila Jr. of Lisbon.
Hoeft placed second at 182 pounds dropping a 6-3 decision to Gavin Nelson of Simley, Minnesota in the title match.
Junior Graham Gambrall was fifth at 152 pounds and Ashton Barker was fifth at 170 for the Trojans.
Clear Creek Amana had a pair of fourth-place finishes as Sam Stevens was fourth at 126 pounds and Kael Scranton was fourth at 132.
Simley won the team title with 424 points followed by Lisbon with 377 points and Fort Dodge with 316.5 points.

City High Places Fourth at Newton
Ethan Wood-Finley and Reece Caven won individual titles as City High placed fourth at the Newton Cardinal Classic on Saturday in Newton.
Johnston won the team title with 213 points followed by Indianola with 202.5, Mount Vernon with 122.5 and City High with 122.
Wood-Finley went 4-0 with four first-period pins on his way to the 120-pound championship.
Caven went 5-0 to win the title at 145 pounds, knocking off Nicholas Bockentedt of North Polk 16-12 in the title match.
City High got a runner-up finish from Ariel Collins at 132 pounds while Garrett Bormann was third at 126 and Jason Lemus was third at 220 pounds.

Liberty High Places Ninth at Tipton Invitational
Ian Brownsberger finished runner-up and Elijah Terwilleger was third to lead Liberty High at the Tipton Invitational on Saturday in Tipton.
Brownsberger fell to Midland’s Shayden Hansen in the 120-pound title match while Terwilleger was third at 152 pounds.
West Liberty won the team title with 250 pounds followed by host Tipton with 199 and Midland with 153.5.
Liberty High finished with 52 points.

Udell’s Earn Titles For Regina
Rowan and Aiden Udell each won individual titles as Regina finished fourth at the Pekin Invitational on Saturday in Pekin.
Aiden Udell went 3-0 with three pins on his way to the title at 160-pounds while Rowan Udell went 4-0 with four wins en route to the 195-pound championship.
The two titles helped Regina place fourth with 91 points as Albia won the team title with 161 points and host Pekin was runner-up with 150.
Carter Rios (132) and Caden Shetler (285) each added third-place finishes for Regina while Danny Gavin was fourth at 170 pounds.
