Liberty High won’t play at home in its first playoff game in program history but the Lightning won’t be far away.
In its second varsity season Liberty High (7-2) secured a playoff spot for the first time and will travel to second-ranked Solon (9-0) for a Class 3A opening round contest at 7 p.m. on November 2 at Spartan Stadium.
The Lightning and Solon are in Bracket A in the Class 3A pairings along with Independence (9-0) and Pella (7-2).
The winners of those two opening round games will meet in a quarterfinal on November 9 with the highest remaining seed hosting.
While Liberty High is making its first playoff appearance Solon is making its 15th consecutive playoff appearance and seeking its second semifinal appearance in three seasons after a first-round exit a year ago.
In Class 1A, fifth-ranked West Branch (9-0) earned the second overall seed and will host North Linn (7-2) in an opening round game in Bracket B.
