Girls Cross Country Roundup: City High Headed Back To State Meet

After a one-year absence the City High girls cross team is headed back to the state meet.
A year after having its state-record string of consecutive state meet appearances end at 30 the Little Hawks secured a return to state on Thursday with a runner-up finish at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at Birdsall Park in Cedar Falls.
Class 4A second-ranked Dubuque Senior won the team title with 29 points followed by sixth-ranked City High with 53 points and No. 12 Western Dubuque with 92.
Rowan Boulter placed third in a time of 19:07 to pace four City High runners that finished in the top 15.
Junior Lilly Reynolds was sixth in 19:41 while freshman Iris Wedemeyer and Erin Anderson were 13th and 14th respectively.

Keeney Wins Individual Title at Marshalltown Meet
Liberty High sophomore Ashlynn Keeney won the individual title to highlight a trio of individual qualifiers for the Lightning at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at Marshalltown Community College on Thursday.
Keeney won the title in 17:58.4, finishing more than 20 seconds in front of Indianola freshman Emily Naughton who was second in 18:20.9.
Liberty High juniors McKenzie Logan and Cam Mac each secured trips to the state meet with top-15 finishes.
Logan was ninth in 19:26.4 while Mac placed 12th in 19:31 as Liberty High missed qualifying for the state meet as a team by five points.
Top-ranked Johnston won the team title with 36 points while Indianola was second with 81 and Cedar Rapids Prairie was third with 84 points.
Liberty High placed fourth with 89 points.

West High Qualifiers Three For State Meet
West High had three individuals qualify for the state meet but had a string of 24 consecutive state meet appearances end with a fifth-place finish at the Class 4A state qualifier at Southeast Polk.
Camden Zirker, Maddy Negley and Annie Schwartz all qualified for the state meet as West High placed fifth with 81 points.
Class 4A No. 5 Southeast Polk won the team title with 34 points followed by West Des Moines Valley with 68 and West Des Moines Dowling with 75.
Des Moines Roosevelt was fourth with 76 points followed by West High.
Zirker led the Women of Troy with a 12th place finish in 20:39.4 while Negley was 14th in 20:41.7 and Schwartz was 15th in 20:57.3.
