Strong Defensive Effort Helps Regina Down South Hardin

Regina relied on an explosive offense while rattling off four consecutive wins following a loss in its season opener.
On Friday it was the Regina defense that helped the Regals remain unbeaten in district play.
Regina forced three turnovers and held South Hardin scoreless in the second half in a 30-7 win in a Class 1A, District 6 matchup in Eldora.
“It was a great defensive effort tonight,” Regina coach Marv Cook said. “I’m very proud of our kids’ growth so far.”
Ashton Cook threw a pair of touchdown passes to Alec Wick and Michael Dunn booted three field goals as Regina stretched its winning streak to five.
Regina improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in District 6 play while South Hardin had a three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 4-2 and 1-1 in district play.
Following a scoreless first quarter Regina took a 3-0 lead on a 30 yard field goal by Dunn.
South Hardin took its only lead at 7-3 when Beau Butler hauled in an 80-yard touchdown pass from Thain Friest on a halfback pass.
Regina responded with Cook hitting Wick for a 3-yard scoring strike and then took a 13-7 lead when an Aidan Udell interception set up a 25 yard field goal by Dunn.
Dunn added a 35-yard field with 1:08 left in the second quarter to put Regina up 16-7 at the half.
It stayed 16-7 until Regina put the game out of reach with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown.
Theo Kolie scored on a 2-yard run with 11:56 left and Cook hit Wick for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 5:29 left to cap the scoring.
Cook finished 16-of-33 passing for 152 yards and two touchdowns with Wick catching six passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Through six games Wick has caught 50 passes for 742 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Kolie posted his second 100-yard rushing performance of the season finishing with 139 yards on 24 carries.
Udell had a team-high six tackles to go with his interceptions to lead a spirited Regina defensive effort.
Josh Dutchik had five tackles including a pair of sacks and Josh Gaffey forced a fumble that was recovered by Russell Hingst.
Sam Aitchison had an interception for Regina which allowed a season-low seven points.
