Class 5A second-ranked Liberty High continued to roll on Saturday going 5-0 on its way to winning the title at the first ever Liberty Invitational.
Liberty High didn’t drop a set in its five wins while improving to 19-1 on the season.
The Lightning defeated Fort Madison (21-15, 21-8), Clinton (21-14, 21-13) and Solon (21-10, 21-6) in pool play before downing 4A No. 14 Center Point-Urbana (25-21, 25-18) in the semifinals and knocking off Clinton (25-23, 25-14) in the championship match.
Five different Liberty High players finished with double digit kills on Saturday led by senior LeeAnn Potter who racked up a team-high 39 kills and 18 digs in the five wins.
Sydney Woods had 22 kills, 22 digs and three ace serves while Cassidy Hartman had 21 kills, eight blocks and five ace serves.
Shelby Kimm had 21 kills and five blocks while Lauren Roman had 13 kills and eight blocks.
Hailey Hested had 44 assists and six ace serves while Rylee Fay had 54 assists and six ace serves and Addie Schmierer had 23 digs and four aces.
City High Wins Dubuque Invitational
City High won the championship bracket of the Dubuque Invitational on Saturday knocking off Bettendorf in the championship match.
The Little Hawks went 5-1 on their way to the title on Saturday going 3-1 in pool play before knocking off Independence 21-19, 21-11 in the semifinals and downing Class 5A No. 10 Bettendorf 19-21, 26-24, 15-10 in the title match.
City High defeated No. 13 Dubuque Hempstead (21-16, 11-21, 15-12), Davenport Central (21-14, 19-21, 15-6) and East Dubuque (21-6, 21-14) and fell to 4A third-ranked North Scott (21-18, 21-12) in pool play.
Kelsey Law had 68 kills and 32 digs in the tournament while Mia Loughran added 23 kills and 39 digs.
Joslyn Becker added 19 kills and two ace blocks for City High while Lindsey Bolton had 122 assists and 10 aces.
Maya Morales had 57 digs and 10 ace serves.
CCA Wins Title at Dunkerton
Clear Creek Amana went 5-0 on Saturday on its way to winning the title at the Dunkerton Invitational.
The Clippers didn’t drop a set in its five wins while improving to 13-7 on the season.
Clear Creek Amana defeated BCLUW (21-11, 21-8), Turkey Valley (21-7, 21-19) and Riceville (21-7, 21-9) in pool play and knocked off Dunkerton (25-21, 25-16) and BCLUW (25-17, 25-10) to win the tournament title.
Calia Clubb had eight kills and Hailey Pollock had seven kills in the pool play win over BCLUW while Cheyaenne Bunch had 16 assists.
Against Turkey Valley, Clubb had a team-high eight kills while Pollock added six kills and Bunch had 16 assists.
Clubb had eight kills, Pollock had five kills and Bunch had 18 assists in the win over Riceville while Gabrielle Bedford had 10 digs.
In the win over Dunkerton Pollock led the Clippers with nine kills and Clubb had six kills. Bunch had 20 assists and Bedford had 11 digs.
Clubb had eight kills and seven ace serves in the win over BCLUW in the final while Pollock had seven kills and Bunch had 18 assists.
