Volleyball Roundup: Liberty High Wins Caroline Found Tournament

Liberty High moved up one spot in the Class 5A volleyball rankings that were released this week.
The Lightning should expect an even bigger bump in the rankings this week after their performance on Saturday at the Caroline Found Volleyball Tournament at West High.
Class 5A No. 8 Liberty High went 6-0 with wins over four top-five teams on its way to the gold bracket title.
Liberty High posted wins over a trio of teams ranked second in their respective classes and dropped just one set in the six wins while improving to 13-0 on the season.
Four different Liberty High players had at least 23 kills in the six matches on Saturday as the Lightning had five players with double digit kills in the tournament.
Cassidy Hartman had a team-high 24 kills while Sydney Woods, LeeAnn Potter and Shelby Kimm all had 23 kills for Liberty High.
Liberty High went 4-0 in pool play with wins over 3A No. 2 Mount Vernon (21-17, 21-16), Des Moines Hoover (21-6, 21-4), Waterloo Columbus (21-16, 21-13) and 4A No. 2 Dubuque Wahlert (21-16, 21-12).
The Lightning rallied for a 25-16, 14-25, 17-15 win over 5A fifth-ranked West Des Moines Dowling in the semifinals and swept 5A second-ranked Ankeny 25-21, 25-20 in the title match.
Hailey Hested had nine ace serves and 44 assists in the six wins while Woods added eight ace serves and 17 digs for Liberty High.
Rylee Fay had 57 assists and 17 digs while LeeAnn Potter had 37 digs and Addie Schmierer had 29 digs.
Hartman and Lauren Roman each had six blocks.
Clear Creek Amana and West High each went 2-3 falling in the semifinals of the silver bracket.
West High (6-11) went 2-2 in pool play defeating Waterloo Columbus (22-20, 17-21, 15-13) and Cedar Rapids Washington (21-17, 21-18) and falling to Ankeny 21-12, 21-16 and West Des Moines Dowling (21-10, 21-18).
The Trojans fell to Wahlert in the semifinals of the silver bracket.
Clear Creek Amana posted pool play wins over Cedar Rapids Prairie (21-19, 21-18) and Des Moines Hoover (21-16, 21-6) and fell to Ankeny (21-18, 21-11) and West Des Moines Dowling (21-16, 21-18).
The Clippers lost to 2A No. 3 Dyersville Beckman (25-11, 25-18) in the silver bracket semis.
