Girls Cross Country Roundup: Clear Creek Amana’s Barker Wins Second Straight Title

What a week for Clear Creek Amana freshman Haidyn Barker.
Barker capped an impressive five-day stretch with her second individual title of the week winning the Benton Invitational in a time of 20:11.7 on Saturday at Roundhouse Nature Trails in Atkins.
The freshman picked up the first win over her career on Tuesday with a title at the Tipton Invitational.
Barker followed up that win by edging runner-up Lauren Gray of Cedar Rapids Kennedy by less than a second on Saturday to win the individual championship at Benton Community.
The title from Barker helped Clear Creek Amana to a sixth-place team finish at the nine-team meet with 130 points.
Class 2A second-ranked Williamsburg won the team title with 33 points while 3A No. 10 Solon was second with 69.
The Spartans had a trio of top-10 finishers led by sophomore Emma Bock who was sixth in 20:38.2.
Kiersten Conway placed seventh in 20:41.7 and Mary Fiala was 10th in 21:20.2 to pace the Spartans.
Emily Coleman was 20th for Clear Creek Amana in a time of 21:55.8.

Regina 12th at Luther College Invitational
Regina placed 12th in a loaded field at the 27-team Luther College All-American Invitational on Saturday in Decorah.
Class 1A No. 11 Regina finished with 370 points, missing a top-10 finish by less than 50 points.
Onalaska (Wisconsin) won the team title with 73 points while Class 4A No. 4 Dubuque Senior was second with 75 points.
4A No. 6 Dubuque Hempstead was third with 135, No. 7 Cedar Rapids Prairie was fourth with 142 and Bloomington Jefferson was fifth with 151.
Josie Voss placed 53rd in a time of 21:17.1 to lead Regina while Annalee Bartles was right behind Voss placing 54th in a time of 21:18.5.
