The Little Cy-Hawk trophy is headed back to Iowa City.

City High built a 21-3 lead and held off a late rally by Ames (0-3) to earn a 28-25 win over the Little Cyclones in the annual matchup the night before the Iowa and Iowa State game.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak to Ames for City High (1-2) and ended a seven-game skid for the Little Hawks that dated back to last season.

Tonka Hickman rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries as City High won its first road game since the 2017 season opener at Linn-Mar.

Raph Hamilton threw for 74 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 48 more yards as City High put up a season-high 417 yards of total offense in the win.

City High took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Hickman and led 14-3 when Hamilton hit Darren Richardson for a 2-yard touchdown pass with six seconds left in the first half.

Hickman made it 21-3 with a 19-yard touchdown run in the third quarter before Ames mounted a rally.

Ames cut the lead to 21-17 with back-to-back touchdowns by Hickman capped a drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to push the City High lead back to 28-17.

Richardson added 81 yards rushing as City High piled up a season-high 343 yards on the ground.

Jamari Newson caught three passes for 65 yards to lead City High.

City High wraps up non-district play next Friday when it travels to Dubuque Hempstead (1-2).
