Third-Ranked Cedar Falls Pulls Away From City High

City High kept pace with third-ranked Cedar Falls for a little more than 12 minutes on Friday night.
The final 36 minutes belonged entirely to the Tigers.
Defending Class 4A runner-up Cedar Falls rattled off 45 unanswered points over the final three quarters on its way to a 52-7 win over City High at Bates Field in Iowa City.
Cedar Falls snapped a 7-7 tie with 24 second-quarter points while improving to 2-0 on the season while City High dropped to 0-2.
City High tied the score at 7-7 on a 16-yard scoring strike from Raph Hamilton to Jamari Newson in the first quarter but it was all Cedar Falls the rest of the way.
Junior running back Ryan Ostrich snapped the tie with the first of his four touchdown runs, an 18-yard burst early in the second quarter.
Ostrich added touchdown runs of 14, 15 and 12 yards and finished with 124 yards on the ground on 13 carries.
Cedar Falls rushed for 239 yards as senior Bo Grosse added 39 yards and senior quarterback Cael Loecher had 32 yards on three carries.
Loecher completed 13-of-20 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Tonka Hickman rushed for 43 yards for City High while Darren Richardson had 35 yards.
Hamilton passed for 60 yards and a score and rushed for 29 yards.
