A new prep sports season is here.
With a new season Your Prep Sports and Chad Burtch and State Farm Insurance brings a new way to recognize the success of are high schools.
The Your Prep Sports Cup presented by Chad Burtch and State Farm Insurance recognizes area athletic teams for their post season success.
West High is the first Your Prep Sports Cup champion, claiming the point-based competition for the 2018-2019 school year.
West High finished with 38 points for the 2018-2019 school year, 14 more than runner-up Regina.
The Your Prep Sports Cup awards points for advancing in the postseason in 15 different sports including football, volleyball, wrestling, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls track and field, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls golf, baseball and softball.
Teams earn two points for reaching a regional final or a top-16 finish in wrestling, track and field or cross country.
A quarterfinal appearance is worth four points and reaching the semifinals in any sport is worth six points.
A state runner-up finish is worth eight points while a school earns 10 points for a state championship.
West High scored points in 11 of 15 participating sports during the 2018-2019 school year posting quarterfinal or better finishes in football, boys basketball, boys soccer, boys cross country and baseball.
Regina scored 24 points thanks in part to a Class 1A state title in boys soccer.
