Volleyball season opened for teams across the state this week with Monday brining the first official day of practice.
The action only heats up going forward with season openers for several area teams looming less than two weeks away.
Before matches get underway later this month here is a look at some of the top area talent to find on courts around the Your Prep Sports area this fall.
LeeAnn Potter
Senior, Liberty High
Potter has been the face of the Liberty High program since its inception leading the Lightning in kills and digs each of the past two seasons.
After helping Liberty High post its first winning season last fall Potter again figures to be at the center of a team capable of taking another huge step this season.
The 5-foot-9 senior is coming off the best season of her prep career a year ago when she hammered 326 kills and collected 296 digs on her way to earning second-team all-division honors in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Kelsey Law
Senior, City High
A member of a three-player Little Hawk attack last season expect Law to build on a strong junior season in which she led City High with 2.87 kills per set.
The 5-foot-11 Law was one of three Little Hawks with more than 200 kills a year ago when she put up 241 in 84 sets.
Law also ranked fourth on the team with 184 digs last season and will look to be an even bigger part of the City High puzzle this season.
Kaiya Luneckas/Lexi Klinkkammer
West Branch
The Bears must replace the production of one of the best hitter in the River Valley Conference last season in departed senior Abbet Fryauf but the talented duo of Luneckas and Klinkkamer will provide plenty of problems at the net for RVC foes.
A lengthy 6-foot senior, Luneckas ranked fourth in Class 2A with 117 blocks last season and ranked third on the team with 180 kills while hitting a team-leading 2.83.
Klinkkammer could be the key for West Branch after a stellar freshman season in which the 5-foot-8 hitter ranked second on the team with 214 kills and led the Bears with 47 ace serves.
160 digs 32 blocks (4th in both)
Hailey Pollock
Junior, Clear Creek Amana
Looking for a WAMAC player poised for a breakthrough season?
Look no further than Pollock who will step into an even bigger role for the Clippers this season after leading Clear Creek Amana in both ace serves a block a year ago as a sophomore.
The 6-foot-1 Pollock was third on the team with 217 kills last season and ranked third in Class 4A with 64 ace serves.
Pollock is also a force defensively collecting, a team-high 56 blocks a year ago.
Katherine Kouba
Sophomore, West High
Among the top freshman in the rugged Mississippi Valley Conference a year ago, Kouba got her feet wet with a strong debut season in which she led the Women of Troy in digs.
A backrow wiz, Kouba collected 289 digs as a freshman to go with 23 ace serves and should expand on those numbers this season.
Even as a sophomore the 5-foot-6 Kouba will be a leader for a young West High squad.
Rylee Fay
Senior, Liberty High
The versatile Fay joins a loaded Liberty High roster after leading West High in assists, ace serves and blocks last season on her way to Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division first team honors.
The 5-foot-9 Missouri State commit is among the top setters in Class 5A and has already eclipsed the 1,000 mark for her career.
Fay had 591 assists, ranked second in 5A with .69 aces per set and added 58 blocks and 131 kills a year ago.
