It has been quite a week for Ayana Lindsey and her City High softball teammates.
Lindsey hit a leadoff home run and tossed a four-hit shutout on Tuesday as City High secured back-to-back state tournament trips for the first time in program history.
On Wednesday Lindsey was named the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division athlete of the year when the league released its postseason awards.
Lindsey was one of four Little Hawks to earn first-team all-Mississippi Division honors after City High claimed its first conference title since 1998.
Joining Lindsey on the Mississippi Valley first team were sophomores Carey Koenig and Ella Cook and junior Sydney Fellows.
Already a three-year starter, Lindsey has enjoyed a breakthrough season as a sophomore.
Lindsey leads Class 5A with 18 home runs and has driven in 34 runs and stolen 31 bases from her leadoff spot.
A .480 hitter, Lindsey leads 5A with 70 runs and has a team-high 59 hits, 29 of which have gone for extra-bases.
Her on-base (.590) and slugging percentages (1.008) both rank in the top three in 5A but the offensive numbers are just the start for Lindsey.
The right-hander is also one of the top pitchers in the state and owns a 19-3 record and 1.23 ERA in 142 2/3 innings.
Koenig was a first-team selection at catcher after hitting .463 with 12 home runs and a team-high 48 RBI.
The sophomore has 27 extra-base hits and a slugging percentage of .878.
Cook was a first-team pick as an infielder following a sophomore season in which she hit .362 with five home runs and 38 RBI while Fellows was a first-teamer as an outfielder.
Fellows is hitting .395 with four home runs and 34 RBI.
City High junior Brooke Bormann was a second team selection in the Mississippi Division while junior Keli Potter and senior Alexa Fredericks were both honorable mention picks.
Liberty High junior outfielder Brylee Klosterman was a first-team selection in the Valley Division.
Klosterman hit .489 this season leading the Lightning with 68 hits, 42 runs and 25 extra-base hits.
Klosterman also led Liberty High with 13 stolen bases and 35 RBI.
Sophomore Tiffany Jones was a second-team selection for Liberty High while sophomores Kara Maiers and Miranda Jones were both honorable mention picks in the Valley Division.
West High junior Kiahna Hill was named to the Valley Division second team while senior Ryleigh Mulcahey and sophomore Liv Williams were honorable mention picks for the Women of Troy.
