Baseball Roundup: City High Splits Doubleheader at Waterloo West

City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Waterloo West on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo dropping the opener 5-4 in eight innings before rebounding for a 7-3 win in the nightcap.
The Little Hawks moved to 22-15 on the season and finished 16-14 in conference play while Waterloo West went to 9-24 and 5-23 in MVC games.
City High snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by senior Zach Kuepker.
Waterloo West won the game in the bottom of the inning on a walk-off three-run home run by Noah Susong.
Garrett Bormann started for City High and allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking two.
Kuepker had two hits and drove in two runs while Carter Seaton singled and drove in a run and Cade Hanrahan and Gable Mitchell each had hits and scored runs for the Little Hawks.
City High scored a pair of runs in the first inning of the nightcap and overcame a late 3-2 deficit with five unanswered runs including four in the seventh that snapped a 3-3 tie.
Bormann had two hits and scored two runs while Ben Steve and a pair of hits for City High.
Seaton, Cade Hanrahan and Kuepker all had a hit and drove in a run and Kuepker scored twice.
Reese Hayden earned the win allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking one in seven innings.
