Softball Roundup: City High Closes Regular Season With Sweep

City High put an exclamation point on one of the best regular seasons in recent history with an emphatic sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Monday in Cedar Rapids.
Class 5A fifth-ranked City High had three home runs in a 16-0 win in the opener and scored first-inning runs in a 13-0 win in the nightcap.
City High closed the regular season 32-7 and 27-3 in MVC play while Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 2-35 and 1-28 in MVC play.
Carey Koenig, Ayana Lindsey and Keli Potter all homered as nine of City High’s 16 hits in the opener went for extra bases.
Koenig was 3-for-3 with a double a home run and four RBI while Ella Cook went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs.
Potter was 2-for-2 with a home run and drove in three while Sydney Fellows tripled twice and drove in a pair of runs and Ayana Lindsey doubled, homered and knocked in two runs.
Brianna Bentler and Alexa Fredericks each had a hit and drove in two runs in the game two win.
Potter and fellows each drove in a run and Cook, Fellows, Potter, Brooke Bormann and Georgia Kimm all scored twice.
