Baseball Roundup: West High Caps Busy Stretch With Sweep of Dubuque Wahlert

West High capped a busy stretch with a sweep of Dubuque Wahlert on Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Iowa City.
Class 4A second-ranked West High won the opener 13-0 in six innings and took the nightcap 12-2 in five innings for its fifth win in six games over a four-day span.
West High swept Western Dubuque in a doubleheader on Friday and split a pair of games with Dubuque Senior on Saturday before Monday’s sweep of Dubuque Wahlert.
The Trojans improved to 23-6 on the season and 18-6 in MVC play while Wahlert dropped to 13-14 on the year and 9-13 in MVC action.
Noah Aanestad picked up the win in the opener tossing four shutout innings allowing just four hits.
Alex Swack and Collin Leavy each worked scoreless innings of relief to secure the win.
Five Trojans had two or more hits in game one as West High hammered out 15 hits in the win.
Ryan Cooper went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Marcus Morgan went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI.
Chase Calderwood, Nick Fleckenstein and Nick Biancuzzo all had two hits for West High. Jason Strunk homered and scored twice while Fleckenstein scored twice and drove in a run.
Casey Marvin picked up the win in the nightcap allowing two runs on two hits while striking out seven in four innings.
Cooper went 3-for-4 with two RBI while Morgan had two hits and drove in two runs in the nightcap.
Marvin drove in two runs and Strunk had a double, scored three runs and drove in a run in the win.

Miller, Walker Lead Solon in Sweep of Williamsburg
Cam Miller and Lucas Walker each allowed five hits in complete game wins as Solon swept Williamsburg in a WAMAC cross-divisional doubleheader on Monday in Solon.
Miller struck out 13 in a 2-0 win in the opener and Walker fanned seven as Solon completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in the nightcap to improve to 17-10 on the season and 14-7 in WAMAC play.
Williamsburg dropped to 8-21 on the season and 8-16 in conference play.
Miller allowed just five hits and walked two while striking out 13 in the game-one win.
Chris McSweeney had two hits while Jax Flynn had a hit and drove in a run and Ryan Geistkemper doubled for the Spartans.
Walker allowed one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking four in the nightcap.
Jackson Pipolo went 3-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs and Miller doubled and drove in two runs for the Spartans in game two.
Nolan Pattison had a hit and Cael O’Neill and Adam Bock each scored runs in the nightcap.

South Tama Takes Two From Clear Creek Amana
South Tama swept Clear Creek Amana in a WAMAC West Division doubleheader in Tiffin on Monday winning the opener 3-1 and taking the nightcap 8-5.
Clear Creek Amana dropped to 12-15 and 9-13 in WAMAC play while South Tama improved to 11-16 and 8-14 in conference games.
Camden Smyka took the loss for Clear Creek Amana in the opener allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out seven in a complete game.
The Clippers managed just five hits in six innings against South Tama starter Carter Kriegel who fanned eight.
Ben Swails, Smyka, Parker Smith, Sam Young and Stirlen Roberson all had hits for Clear Creek Amana in game one.
Casey Ogden had two hits and drove in a run and TJ Bollers doubled and scored twice to pace the Clippers in the nightcap.
Brock Reade had two hits and drove in a run for CCA.
Sam Young took the loss allowing seven runs on six hits.

Dubuque Hempstead Sweeps Liberty High
Dubuque Hempstead swept Liberty High in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Monday at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids winning the opener 7-6 in eight innings and taking the nightcap 7-2.
Liberty High dropped to 15-13 on the season and 10-10 in MVC play while Dubuque Hempstead improved to 18-10 and 15-9 in conference play.
Ethan O’Donnell allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings in the opener while Isaiah Pihl took the loss allowing three runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Sam Funke went 2-for-3 with a home run and drove in five runs to lead Liberty High in game one while Isaac Bender went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Jack Kinzer went 2-for-2 and scored a run while Keian Secrist had a double and scored twice.
Nolan Frey had two hits in game two while Secrist had a double and Funke and TJ Kimm each drove in a run in the nightcap.
Cayden Duhaime took the loss allowing a run on two hits while striking out two in two innings.
