Softball Roundup: Liberty High Sweeps No. 10 Cedar Rapids Xavier

Liberty High swept Class 4A tenth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Thursday in Cedar Rapids winning the opener 8-4 and taking the nightcap 11-10.
The Lightning improved to 15-17 on the season and 13-11 in MVC play with the sweep while Cedar Rapids Xavier dropped to 19-10 on the year and 14-10 in conference play.
Courtney Olson hit a first-inning grand slam in the opener and Liberty High never looked back on its way to an 8-4 win.
Olson finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI to pace Liberty High while Miranda Jones added a solon home run and Ella McLaughlin and Tiffany Jones each went 2-for-3.
Kara Maiers earned the win allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two.
Tiffany Jones had three hits and drove in four runs as Liberty High held on for a 11-10 win in a wild nightcap.
Kinsley Robertson earned the win allowing 10 runs on 14 hits while striking out four in a complete game.
Addie Schmierer had two hits and drove in a run while McLaughlin had a hit and drove in two runs for Liberty High.
Brylee Klosterman had a double, scored a run and drove in a run.

City High Splits With CR Jefferson
City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Thursday in Iowa City winning the opener 6-5 and dropping the nightcap 5-4.
Class 5A fifth-ranked City High moved to 26-7 and 21-3 in MVC play while Cedar Rapids Jefferson is now 16-16 on the season and 14-10 in conference play.
Carey Koenig had a walk-off single in the seventh inning of the opener to give City High the 6-5 win.
Koenig was one of four Little Hawks with two hits in game one joining Sydney Fellows, Keli Potter and Maykala Ribble with two hits each.
Fellows, Ayana Lindsey and Ribble all homered in the opener with Lindsey driving in two runs and also picking up the win in the circle allowing five unearned runs on seven hits while striking out six.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson scored four runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap to escape with the split.
Ella Cook took the loss for City High allowing five runs on 13 hits while striking out five in a complete game.
Lindsey went 2-for-3 with a run and Jayden Young homered and drove in two runs to lead City High.
Cook had a hit and scored a run in the nightcap.
