Cam Miller is in the middle of a junior baseball season that has cemented his status as one of the top pitchers in the state.
Even with his success on the diamond the allure of playing college football for one of the most successful programs in the nation proved too much for the Solon standout to pass up.
On Monday Miller took to Twitter to announce his verbal commitment to play football at two-time defending national champion North Dakota State.
“I’m very appreciative to all of my coaches and teammates for their guidance and encouragement,” Miller wrote. “Therefore, I’m extremely proud to announce that I am committed to North Dakota State University! Go Bison!”
Miller has directed Solon to a 20-2 record and consecutive playoff berths in two seasons as the Spartans’ starting quarterback.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Miller has thrown for 3,458 yards while completing better than 59 percent of his passes in his two seasons under center.
Miller has thrown 51 touchdown passes with just 13 interceptions and has also rushed for 344 yards and four touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Last season as a junior Miller passes for 1,627 yards and 26 touchdowns and ran for 183 yards and three scores while leading Solon to a 9-1 record.
As a pitcher Miller owns a 4-0 record and .38 ERA and has struck out 61 in a team-high 37 innings this season.
Miller is also a two-year starter on the Solon basketball team and averaged 6.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season.
North Dakota State is coming off a 15-0 season in which it captured its seventh FCS title in the past eight seasons.
The Bison are 112-8 over that eight-year span winning five straight national titles from 2011-2015.
Miller becomes the second Solon standout to commit to an FCS powerhouse in as many days.
AJ Coons, Miller’s top target and the Spartans’ leading receiver over the past two seasons gave a verbal commitment to South Dakota State on Sunday.
