Baseball Roundup: City High Splits With Cedar Rapids Jefferson

City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Monday at Mercer Park in Iowa City winning the opener 1-0 and dropping the nightcap 4-1.
Class 4A No. 10 City High moved to 17-6 and 12-6 in MVC play while Cedar Rapids Jefferson went to 11-12 on the season and 8-10 in conference games.
City High got a strong outing from senior Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand while winning the opener.
Threlkeld-Wiegand allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings while striking out three and walking three.
Brady Herzic worked two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
City High scored the only run of the game in the sixth when Gable Mitchell led off with a single and scored on a double by Liam McComas.
McComas finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles in the opener while Mitchell and Zach Kuepker added hits.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson salvaged a split behind a strong outing from senior Jon Cross who allowed just one run on six hits.
Garrett Bormann took the loss for City High allowing three runs, one earned, on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
McComas went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in the nightcap while Ben Steve and Bormann each had hits.
