One of the top big men in the state has found which front court he will join in the future.
West High senior Even Brauns verbally committed to Belmont University on Thursday announcing his decision on Twitter.
“A part of every journey is the end but not every end has to be a sad one, today I announce my commitment to Belmont University to continue my dream of basketball at the next level,” Brauns wrote. “The recruiting experience has been a great one for me and my family and we have been humbled by all of the great programs that have taken the time to reach out to me and use their time to recruit me.”
The 6-foot-9 Brauns averaged 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a junior in his first season at West High after playing his first two prep seasons at Regina.
Last season Brauns led West High with 30 blocks which ranked 14th in Class 4A and helped the Trojans to a 17-5 record and a spot at the 4A state tournament.
Brauns had a long list of college suitors including in-state programs Northern Iowa and Drake.
The senior-to-be had offers from South Dakota, Indiana State, Bradley, Wofford and Toledo among others.
Located in Nashville, Belmont is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference and has become a regular at the NCAA Tournament.
The Bruins have made eight NCAA tournament appearances since 2006 and are coming off a 27-6 season a year ago that featured an NCAA tournament trip.
