Softball Roundup: Koenig Hits Grand Slam in City High Sweep

City High dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Jack North tournament on Saturday but the Little Hawks got back on track in a big way on Tuesday.
Class 5A fifth-ranked City High hammered 30 hits and outscored Waterloo West 32-0 while sweeping the Wahawks in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Waterloo.
City High won the opener 11-0 in five innings and took the nightcap 21-0 in three innings while improving to 18-4 on the season and 14-2 in MVC play.
Waterloo West dropped to 4-19 and 4-14 in conference play.
Ella Cook tossed a two-hit shutout while striking out three and also went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in the opener.
Carey Koenig was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs and scored three times while Ayana Lindsey and Sydney Fellows each had two hits and scored twice.
Fellows had two doubles and drove in two runs while Keli Potter had a double and drove in five in the game one win.
Junior Maggie Glenn tossed a three-inning no-hitter in the nightcap as City High exploded for 21 runs on 16 hits.
Koenig had two home runs including a grand slam and drove in seven runs in game two.
Potter had three hits and drove in a run and Cook was 2-for-2 with three runs scored as 12 different Little Hawks had a hit in the nightcap.
Lindsey had a hit and scored three runs while Jayden Young had a hit and drove in two runs and Brianna Bentler, Kaylee Paulsen, Brooke Bormann, Glenn and Libby Frantz all had a hit and drove in a run.

Liberty High Sweeps Western Dubuque
Liberty High posted its second consecutive Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader sweep on Tuesday taking two games from Western Dubuque at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.
The Lightning won the opener 4-3 and took the nightcap 12-8 to improve to 12-10 on the season and 11-5 in MVC play.
Western Dubuque dropped to 9-12 on the year and 7-11 in conference contests.
Liberty High scored three runs over the final two innings to rally for a 4-3 win in the opener.
Brylee Klosterman went 2-for-3 and scored two runs and Courtney Olson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Liberty High in the opener.
Blythe Geiman plated the winning run with an RBI ground out in the seventh inning.
Kara Maiers earned the win allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out 10 in seven innings.
Six different players had two hits as Liberty High pounded out 13 hits in the nightcap.
Tiffany Jones and Ashlyn Geasland each had two hits and drove in three runs while Kennedy Daugherty, Klosterman and Mallory Jones all had two hits and scored two runs.
Miranda Jones doubled and drove in three runs and Raquel Trolliet was 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored three runs.
Kinsley Robertson earned the win allowing seven runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking three in 5 1/3 innings.
