A big first inning propelled Regina to an 11-2 win over Mid-Prairie in the early game on Monday, but a seventh inning rally wasn’t enough in game two as the Regals lost 11-10, settling for the split.
Trailing by nine runs in the nightcap, the Regals were down to their last strike when Chase Becker fouled off a pitch and then drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the inning. Three more walks helped the Regals cut the lead to five.
Levi Quinlan and Paul Keller each drove in two runs to bring the winning run to the plate, but a groundout to first base ended the game.
The second game was tied 1-1 with two outs in the top of the sixth when Mid-Prairie’s Cale Roberston cleared the bases with a single. The Regals walked nine and allowed 10 runs over the final two innings to dig the 11-2 hole.
Becker was 3-3 at the plate and gave up just three hits in five and one thirds innings on the mound. He walked two and struck out ten.
In the first game, the Regals took advantage of two hit batters in the first inning. Regina got singles from Scott Arendt, Chase Becker, and Danny Molony in the four-run inning.
The Regals scored in every inning of the nine-run win.
Leadoff hitter Scott Arendt finished 4-5 with five stolen bases. Alex Meister was 2-3 with 2 RBI and three steals. Danny Molony was 2-3 with three steals as well.
Joey Molony was credited with the win, allowing two runs on eight hits over five and two thirds innings.
