City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
City High won the opener 6-2 and dropped the nightcap 12-2 in five innings while moving to 3-1 on the season.
Reese Hayden picked up the win in the opener working two scoreless innings of relief after Brady Herzic allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits in five innings.
Sam Lewers went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the opener while Liam McComas went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Zach Kuepker went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Gable Mitchell went 1-for-3 and scored twice in the opener.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy scored three runs in the first and five in the second to break open the nightcap.
Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand took the loss for City High allowing four runs on three hits in one inning.
McComas went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run to lead City High in the second game while Mitchell was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.

Clear Creek Amana Splits With Maquoketa
Clear Creek Amana got a pair of strong pitching performances from Camden Smyka and Casey Ogden in a WAMAC doubleheader split on Thursday at Maquoketa.
Smyka tossed a two-hitter in a 1-0 loss in the opener and Ogden allowed just two unearned runs on three hits in a 3-2 win for the Clippers in the nightcap.
Clear Creek Amana moved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in WAMAC play with the doubleheader split.
Smyka was impressive in the opener allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five and walking two.
The Clippers managed just four singles, one each from Parker Smith, Smyka, Ben Swails and Ogden but couldn’t push across a run.
Clear Creek Amana found just enough offense in game two, scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when Smyka scored on a Ben Swails sacrifice fly to left field.
Tyler Schrepfer had a double in game two while Smyka and Sam Young each had singles and scored runs.
TJ Bollers and Swails each had RBIs in the win.
Ogden picked up the win allowing two unearned runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two.
