Milder Wins First District Title To Secure Third Consecutive State Berth

Nick Milder is headed to the state wrestling meet for the third straight season.
For the first time Milder will go to Wells Fargo Arena a district champion.
Milder won the first district title of his career on Saturday with a 3-2 decision over tenth-ranked Cole Clark of Lisbon in the 182-pound title match at the Class 1A, District 5 meet in Montezuma.
The Regina senior improved to 33-2 on the season with his second win over Clark in as many weeks.
Milder defeated Clark 5-3 in the sectional finals last Saturday to earn the first district crown of his career.
On Saturday Milder secured another big career first with the 3-2 district final win.
1A fifth-ranked Milder pinned Ben Huff of Baxter in 1:00 in the district semifinals before picking up the win over Clark in the championship match.
Lisbon had seven wrestlers earn district titles on Saturday and qualified eight wrestlers for the state meet while rolling to the team title with 155 points.

Siemen, Bloem Come Up Short Of State Berths
Tyler Siemen had his seanior season end one win shy of a trip to the state meet.
Siemen went 1-1 at the Class 1A, District 8 meet on Saturday at Wilton but settled for a third-place finish at 120 pounds and missed securing a spot at the state meet.
Senior Drake Bloem placed fourth at 220 pounds as the Bears failed to qualify a wrestler for next week’s state meet.
Siemen (27-15) dropped a 10-5 decision to WACO freshman Jonah Clark in the semifinals before bouncing back to pin Bruce Claman of Van Buren in 27 seconds.
Bloem (16-18) was pinned by Keegan Akers of Mediapolis in 2:56 in the semifinals and Wilton senior Calib Lilly pinned Bloem in 5:05 in the third-place match.
Highland won the team title with 72 points, edging Mediapolis by one point while Wapello was third with 67 points.
