City High got some revenge on Wednesday with a win over Cedar Rapids Prairie but came up a win shy of a return to the State Dual Meet.

Class 3A No. 22 City High upset No. 10 Cedar Rapids Prairie 39-30 before falling to eighth-ranked Western Dubuque 40-21 on Wednesday in a 3A regional dual in Epworth.

City High won eight matches, five via pin, in a semifinal win over Cedar Rapids Prairie that avenged a 44-30 regular season loss to the Hawks in December.

Ethan Wood-Finley, Michael Santoro, Kyle Hefley, Joe Ring and Jacob Murry all picked up pins in the semifinals as City High set up a regular season rematch with Western Dubuque.

A year after falling to City High in the regional title match Western Dubuque got some revenge of its own.

The Bobcats closed the dual with five consecutive wins to pull away for a 40-21 win.

Wood-Finley, Carter Newton, Gable Mitchell, Hefley and Reece Caven all had wins for City High in the title match.

West High Falls to CR Kennedy in Regional Semifinal

West High had its dual season end with a 60-22 loss to No. 11 Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Wednesday in a Class 3A regional semifinal in Waukee.

Grant O’Dell, Parker McBride, Keaton Speicher and Joe Dixon had wins for West High.

Fourth-ranked Waukee defeated Cedar Rapids Kennedy 50-21 in the regional title match to advance to the state dual meet.
