Your Prep Sports
There is a long history of wrestling success at Regina.
On Saturday Nick Milder did something that no other Regina wrestler had ever accomplished.
Milder became the first four-time River Valley Conference champion in program history and just the second four-time champ in the history of the conference with a title at 182 pounds at the RVC Conference Meet at North Cedar High School in Clarence.
The fourth consecutive title by Milder and a runner-up finish by Rowan Udell at 195 pounds helped Regina finish in a tie for the ninth place with 89 points.
West Liberty won its fifth consecutive RVC team title, finishing with 215 points to outdistance runner-up Camanche by 17.5 points. Wilton was third with 140 followed by Monticello and Tipton while West Branch was 12th with 55.
Class 1A eighth-ranked Milder went 3-0 with a pair of pins on Saturday to finish his career a perfect 11-0 with six pins in RVC tournament matches.
The senior has never lost a regular season or RVC tournament match to a conference opponent.
Milder (29-2) pinned Cody Ploog of North Cedar and Colton Allen of Mid-Prairie to reach the finals where he earned an 11-5 decision over Wilton junior Coy Baker.
After winning the 160-pound title as a freshman, Milder won back-to-back 170-pound titles before capping his career with Saturday’s 182-pound crown.
Udell (24-8) dropped a 10-7 decision to Mid-Prairie junior Isaac Boucher (34-6) in the 195-pound title match.
Aidan Udell added a fifth-place finish at 145 pounds for Regina while Will Bobst was sixth at 138.
West Branch was led by Quinn Hayden, Tyler Siemen and Morgan Hartz who all posted fourth-place performances.
Hayden was fourth at 113 pounds, Siemen was fourth at 120 and Hartz finished fourth at 170.
