Girls Basketball Roundup: City High Escapes Scare From CR Xavier to Stay Unbeaten

Class 5A top-ranked City High used a fourth-quarter rally to escape with a 61-60 win over 4A fifth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier in a top-five Mississippi Valley Conference matchup on Friday in Iowa City.
Aubrey Joens scored a game-high 28 points and Rose Nkumu added 18 including the go-ahead basket in the fourth quarter as City High improved to 8-0.
Ella Cook added six points and Paige Rocca had five for City High.
Aree Beckman led four players in double figures for Xavier which dropped to 8-2 with the loss.

West Branch Closes 2018 With Win at Camanche
Sasha Koenig scored 16 points and handed out three assists to lead Class 2A No. 14 West Branch to a 46-34 win at Camanche on Friday in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Camanche.
West Branch improved to 9-2 on the season and 7-2 in RVC play with the win while Camanche dropped to 3-7 on the season and 3-6 in RVC play.
Taylor Thein had 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists for West Branch while Mackenzie Heise added eight points and five rebounds.

Bellevue Pulls Away From Regina
Class 2A seventh-ranked Bellevue slowly pulled away from Regina for a 52-42 win on Friday in a River Valley cross-divisional matchup in Iowa City.
Bellevue improved to 11-0 on the season and 9-0 in RVC play while Regina dropped to 4-5 and 4-4 in RVC play with its second consecutive loss.
Sam Greving led Regina with 14 points and five rebounds while Elly Gahan added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Steph Stenger came off the bench to score nine points and add three assists while Annie Gahan had nine points and seven rebounds.

Stratton Pours in 30 to Lead Clear Creek Amana Past Benton Community
Karsyn Stratton poured in a season-high 30 points to lift Clear Creek Amana to a 61-35 win over Benton Community on Friday in a WAMAC West Division matchup in Van Horne.
Clear Creek Amana led by five at the half but outscored the Bobcats 33-12 in the second half while improving to 5-4 on the season with its second consecutive win.
Benton Community dropped to 3-6 with the loss.
Jordan Neely added eight points while Meagan Harvey and Gracie Downes each had five points for the Clippers.
