There is still a long way to go in determining the River Valley Conference South Division champion.
West Branch took an important step in the South Division title race on Tuesday.
West Branch built a five-point halftime lead and held on for a 40-38 win over Wilton in a matchup of South Division title contenders in West Branch.
The Bears didn’t have a player score in double figures but got at least six points from five different players while improving to 6-1 on the season and 5-1 in RVC South Division play.
Wilton dropped to 6-1 on the season and 5-1 in RVC play.
Abbey Fryauf led West Branch with eight points while Taylor Thein added seven points for the Bears.
Sasha Koenig had six points, five rebounds and four assists while Kaiya Luneckas had six points and six rebounds.
Rylan Druecker had five points and seven rebounds while Mackenzie Heise had six points and five rebounds.
Taya Young added four rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Bears.

City High Pulls Away From Dubuque Wahlert
Class 5A second-ranked City High used a 28-point third-quarter to pull away from a 74-46 win over Dubuque Wahlert in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup on Tuesday in Dubuque.
City High led 35-31 at halftime but outscored Dubuque Wahlert (2-3) 28-4 in the third quarter while improving to 4-0 on the season.
Aubrey Joens had a game-high 29 points while Rose Nkumu added 25 for City High.
Paige Rocca had 11 points and Ella Cook chipped in with six for the Little Hawks.

West High bounced back from an overtime loss to City High last week with a 51-41 win over Dubuque Senior on Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Iowa City.
Class 5A sixth-ranked West High improved to 4-1 on the season while Dubuque Senior dropped to 3-3.
Sophomore Audrey Koch led West High with 16 points and nine rebounds while Cailyn Morgan added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Lauren Zacharias had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals in the win.
