Ryan Murken
Your Prep Sports
For the third time Your Prep Sports is honoring the top volleyball players in its coverage area.
The Your Prep Sports volleyball team recognizes seven of the top volleyball players in the area for their performance this season.
This year’s seven-member squad is made up of Division I recruits and all-conference and all-state performers.
Regina senior Jaedynn Evans is the captain of the 2018 Your Prep Sports squad after a strong senior season in which she hammered a career-high 390 kills.
Jaedynn Evans (Captain)
5-9, Senior, Regina
Evans posted the best season of her career as a senior leading Regina in kills, digs, blocks and ace serves while being named to the Your Prep Sports squad for the second straight season.
The Central Michigan recruit ranked fifth in Class 2A with a career-high 390 kills while posting a career-best .279 hitting percentage.
A strong all-around player, Evans added career-highs digs (479), ace serves (54) and blocks (47) while being named to the River Valley Conference Elite team for the third consecutive season.
Evans had at least 275 kills and 260 digs in four consecutive seasons and finished her career with 1,267 kills and 1,426 digs.
Ellie Evans
5-11, Senior, City High
A four-year varsity starter, Evans closed a strong career with her best season.
Evans notched career-highs in both kills and digs while helping City High to a 24-13 record, top-15 ranking and a spot in the Class 5A regional finals.
The 24 wins for City High were eight more than last season and matched the most for the Little Hawks since 2012.
Evans was a big part of that surge, leading City High with 281 kills and 339 digs on her way to being named to the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division second team.
A first-time Your Prep Sports team honoree Evans ranked second on the team with 31 blocks and third with 35 ace serves.
Abbey Fryauf
6-1, Senior, West Branch
Since cracking the starting lineup as a sophomore Fryauf made steady improvements each of the past two seasons.
This season the Fryauf proved herself as one of the top hitters in Class 2A.
Fryauf ranked fourth in Class 2A with a career-high 396 kills while hitting .279 on her way to being named to the River Valley Conference Elite team for the first time.
The South Dakota State recruit had a career-best 31 kills in a four-set loss at Camanche and averaged 4 kills per set this season to help West Branch to a 25-14 record and a spot in the 2A regional semifinals.
Fryauf also ranked second on the team with 216 digs and had 29 blocks.
Shauntina Williams
5-10, Senior, Clear Creek Amana
How impressive was Williams during her senior season?
Despite missing 15 matches with an injury Williams was still unanimously selected to the WAMAC West Division squad after ranking third in the West Division in kills per set.
A thumb injury sidelined the explosive Williams for 15 matches in September and prevented her from matching her impressive kill total from a year ago.
The injury couldn’t stop Williams from turning in an impressive senior season in which she was a unanimous first-team all-West Division pick for the second straight season.
Williams had 221 kills, an average of 3.11 per set, and ranked third on the team with 31 blocks and was fifth with 195 kills.
A four-year varsity player Williams had more than 200 kills each of the past three seasons.
Rachael Nelson
5-7, Senior, Solon
Solon posted its best season since 2014 this fall and Nelson was a big reason for the Spartans’ surge.
Nelson did it all for Solon on her way to being named to the WAMAC East Division for the first time in her career.
An all-around player, Nelson led Solon with 417 assists and was third on the team with 145 kills.
Nelson added 37 ace serves, 36 blocks and 181 digs ranking in the top three on the team in each category while helping Solon to a 22-18 record and its first postseason win since the 2014 title game.
A four-year starter, Nelson closed her career with more than 1,600 assists, 600 digs and 400 kills.
Rylee Fay
5-9, Junior, West High
Fay took over the setting duties at West High from her older sister last season but her breakthrough campaign came this fall as a junior.
The versatile Fay led West High in assists, ace serves and blocks on her way to being named to the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division first team.
Fay had a team-high 591 assists, 58 blocks and 68 ace serves and ranked third on the team with 131 kills and 245 digs.
The Missouri State Commit eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark this season and ranked second in Class 5A with .69 ace serves per set.
LeeAnn Potter
5-9, Junior, Liberty High
Liberty High took some big strides in its second season as a varsity program.
The Lightning upped their win total by six and posted their first winning season going 19-15 against a challenging Mississippi Valley Conference schedule.
One of the big reasons for the improvement was the growth from the Lightning’s leader Potter.
Potter upped her totals in kills, ace serves and blocks this season on her way to being named to the MVC Valley Divisions second team.
The junior led Liberty High in kills (326) and digs (296) for the second consecutive season and also posted a team-high 40 ace serves.
