Abbey Fryauf and Jaedynn Evans spent plenty of time during their prep careers facing one another from the opposite side of the net.

The two long-time River Valley Conference rivals capped stellar prep careers by being selected to the same team.

Fryauf and Evans were both named to the Class 2A honorable mention all-state squad released by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Tuesday.

The all-state honors provided a bookend to brilliant careers for both Evans and Fryauf.

Evans, a senior at Regina, had the best season of her career this fall leading the Regals in kills, digs blocks and ace serves.

The 5-foot-9 Evans ranked fifth in Class 2A with 390 kills and added career-highs in digs (479), ace serves (54) and blocks (47).

Fryauf was equally impressive in her final prep season.

The 6-foot-1 West Branch senior ranked fourth in 2A with 396 kills to lift West Branch to a 25-14 record and a spot in the 2A regional semifinals.

A South Dakota State recruit, Fryauf had 216 digs and 29 blocks.

Clear Creek Amana senior Shauntina Williams and Liberty High junior LeeAnn Potter were both honorable mention selections in Class 4A.

Williams had 221 kills and 195 digs despite missing 15 matches with an injury.

Potter led Liberty High with 326 kills, 296 digs and 40 ace serves while helping the Lightning to a 19-15 record.
