The season officially began for high school swimming teams on Monday with the first day of practice.

A day after kicking off his high school season City High junior standout Forrest Frazier announced his college plans.

A two-time defending state champion and one of the top juniors in the country Frazier gave a verbal commitment to the University of California Berkley on Tuesday via Twitter.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of California Berkeley,” Frazier wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank my coaches, my family, and teammates who have supported me so far. The Cal culture is like no other!”

After notching a pair of top-10 finishes as a freshman including a third-place finish in the backstroke Frazier established himself as one of the premier swimmers in the state last season winning a pair of state titles.

Frazier won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke at the 2018 state swimming meet on his way to being named the meet’s outstanding swimmer.

He also was a member of the runner-up City High 200 medley relay team.

Frazier earned all-American honors in both the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke with his state meet-winning times.

He won the 100 butterfly in 49.01 and broke a 15-year-old state record in the 100 breaststroke by 1.53 with a winning time of 54.16.
