West High improved its team finish for the third consecutive season on Saturday at the state swimming meet.

A year after placing eighth at the state meet West High climbed two spots to sixth on Saturday finishing with 143 points.

With a young and talented roster returning next season the biggest improvements for Women of Troy may be yet to come.

Sophomore Aurora Roghair and freshman Scarlet Martin each earned a pair of top-three finishes on Saturday at the Marshalltown YMCA as West High came 10 points from a top-10 finish.

Ames won the team title for the fourth consecutive season and eighth time in nine years with 372 points while West Des Moines Dowling was second with 319 followed by Bettendorf with 194 and Ankeny with 185.

Cedar Falls was fifth with 153 to lead a trio of Mississippi Valley Conference teams in the top seven.

West High was sixth with 143 followed by City High which finished 11 points in front of eighth-place Pleasant Valley.

Roghair set school records while earning top-three finishes in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Roghair was runner-up in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:53.2.

West Des Moines Dowling junior Berit Quass set the state record in the event in the prelims and won the title in 4:50.96.

Roghair added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.13.

Martin missed a state title in the 100 butterfly by .05, finishing behind state champion Quass in a time of 54.21.

The freshman added a third-place finish in the 200 IM in 2:03.33.

Dowling sophomore Mary Martin won the title in 2:02.96 and Arianna Ottavianelli was runner-up in 2:03.16.

Martin and Roghair joined Olivia Taeger and Lily Ernst to place third in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:30.13.

Ames won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.55 while Dowling was second in 3:26.04.

Martin, Roghair, Taeger and Ella Hochstetler placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.24.
