Linn-Mar Pulls Away From City High Late

Linn-Mar broke open a seven-point game with 28 unanswered points on its way to a 49-14 win over City High on Friday in a Class 4A, District 4 matchup at Linn-Mar Stadium in Marion.
City High cut a 21-7 halftime deficit to seven points on a 1-yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Raph Hamilton in the third quarter but it was all Lions the rest of the way.
Linn-Mar scored the final 28 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter, while improving to 3-6 on the season and 2-2 in district play with its second consecutive win.
City High fell to 2-6 with its fourth consecutive loss and will close out the season next week at seventh-ranked West High (7-1).
Linn-Mar jumped to a 14-0 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Alex Hess and a 25-yard run by junior quarterback Marcus Orr.
City High responded with a 4-yard scoring run by Tonka Hickman but trailed 21-7 at halftime after Will Zahradnik hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Orr late in the second period.
The Little Hawks got back into the game in the third quarter when Hamilton scored on a 1-yard plunge on a fourth down play but could get no closear.
Orr found Coy Sarsfield for a 45-yard touchdown pass and Hess put the game away with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown runs.
