Solon continues to climb the leaderboard at the WAMAC cross country meet.

The Spartans followed up a third-place finish last season with a runner-up performance at the WAMAC Conference meet on Thursday at South Tama High School.

Freshman Emma Bock finished second and sophomore Kiersten Conway was eighth as Solon finished with 85 points.

Class 2A No. 2 Williamsburg won the team title with 67 points while Solon was second and Marion edged defending champion Benton Community by one point to finish third.

Clear Creek Amana placed ninth with 238 points.

Bock was second in 19:45.3 finishing behind only Center Point-Urbana Adrianna Katcher who won the individual title in 18:47.9.

Conway was eighth in 20:26.3 and Meghan O’Neill was 22nd in 21:10.4 for the Spartans.

Kaylie Barker led Clear Creek Amana with a 25th place finish in a time of 21:17.9.
